Wavr — Privacy Policy
Overview
Wavr is a streaming media player that respects your privacy. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. This privacy policy explains how Wavr handles information on your device.
Data Collection
Wavr does not collect any data. Specifically:
- No personal information is collected
- No usage analytics or tracking
- No advertising or ad identifiers
- No third-party analytics services
- No user accounts or registration
- No cookies or web tracking
Local Storage
All data in Wavr is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This includes:
- Stream names and URLs you add to your library
- Folder organisation and favourites
- Playback history and resume positions
- App preferences and settings
If you are signed in to iCloud, this data also syncs across your own devices through Apple's CloudKit, stored in your private iCloud database. This sync stays entirely within your personal iCloud account — the data is not accessible to us and is never sent to our own servers or shared with third parties. You can turn it off by disabling iCloud for Wavr in your device settings.
Camera Usage
Wavr requests camera access solely for scanning QR codes to import shared streams. The camera is:
- Only activated when you open the QR scanner
- Never used for any other purpose
- Not used to capture, store, or transmit images or video
- Fully optional — you can deny camera permission and still use all other features
Network Usage
Wavr connects to the internet to play the streaming URLs you provide and, when you use Wavr Discover, to fetch its curated catalogue of genres and stations from our content service. These requests do not include personal information, and no account or profile is required. Wavr does not:
- Require you to create an account or sign in to Wavr
- Send your personal data to any third party
- Use advertising or third-party tracking
- Build a profile of you or sell your information
Device Features
Wavr integrates with the following device features, all processed locally:
- AirPlay — streams audio/video directly to AirPlay devices on your local network
- CarPlay — displays your library and controls playback in your vehicle
- Apple Watch — syncs playback controls and favourites via Apple's WatchConnectivity framework
- Picture-in-Picture — displays video in a floating window on your device
- Now Playing Controls — shows playback info on your lock screen and Control Center
None of these features transmit data to external servers.
Third-Party Libraries
Wavr uses MobileVLCKit, an open-source media playback library licensed under LGPLv2.1. This library processes media locally on your device and does not collect or transmit any data.
Purchases
Wavr Discover subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are processed by Apple through your Apple Account. Wavr does not receive or store your payment details. Subscription and purchase status is handled by Apple's StoreKit and validated on your device; we do not collect personally identifiable purchase information.
Children's Privacy
Wavr does not collect any data from any users, including children under 13. The app contains no objectionable content and is rated 4+.
Changes to This Policy
If we update this privacy policy, the changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Since Wavr collects no data, material changes are unlikely.
